Real mastery

When business and tradition combine generations.
The family odyssey of Henryk Kania

When a long-term tradition and experience blend with modern technology, the result is excellent, perfectly seasoned cold meats. Such as the ones that Zakłady Mięsne Henryk Kania has been producing for years, the ones that are served on millions of Polish tables every day.

The history of Zakłady Mięsne Henryk Kania has been created with great passion for over 25 years. However, the roots of the company go back to the nineteenth century when traditional meat craftsmanship flourished in Pszczyna. The meat processing plant has been situated in the place of today's seat for years. A perfect and full of centuries-old tradition place was an ideal location for tentative meat enterprise by Henryk Kania, master butcher.

Henryk Kania

Dynamic development

His stubbornness, great passion and a desire for continuous development paid off. Year after year, Zakłady Mięsne Henryk Kania has been gaining more and more customers delighted with the taste of cold meats from Pszczyna. No one was able to stop development of the Polish family business. Though, it almost happened in the 90s... The reason was fondness to craft work and devotion to a traditional form of meat production. Henryk Kania did not agree on massification and simplification of production as he knew that a number of demanding customers would turn aside from him.

The solution to a difficult situation was investments aimed at maintaining very high quality of the meat produced, increasing production and expanding to a modern distribution network at the same time. In the course of time, it became obvious that selling in their own stores and small retail centres will not allow the company to survive, and preserving the intimate nature of distribution does not make any sense.

New generation

When the change in generations took place in the company and Henryk Kania Jr. inherited his father's company, the strategy of development was quite obvious. Large retail chains were the only opportunity for further development of the company and thus the way to further investments enabling the traditional taste to be maintained with increased volume and modern meat processing model. We are still deriving what is the best of a centuries-old butcher tradition from Pszczyna that is proven recipes, secrets of the meat processing craftsmanship and high attention to the quality of products. Thanks to that, individual product lines form a range of unique deli products for gourmets from every corner of Poland and Europe. Among our products, you can find both ham wrapped in the oak smoke and dried sausages, as well as tenderloins with a hint of subtle mix of spices.

Every day, respect for the values pursued by Henryk Kania brings measurable benefits both for the company and the customers. The image of a craftsman has been present in a logo for years and is becoming a more and more recognizable sign of high product quality. Transformation from a small butcher's plant into a large and dynamic network of specialized meat processing plants (Pszczyna, Goczałkowice-Zdrój, Mokrsko) took place in a careful and thoughtful way. Thanks to this, Zakłady Mięsne Henryk Kania is the third largest player on the meat market in Poland. The recipients of its products are retail chains in Poland and abroad, such as Auchan, Biedronka, Carrefour, Delikatesy Centrum, E-Leclerc, Intermarche, Kaufland, Lidl, Makro, Netto and Żabka. On the other hand, ZM Henryk Kania's shares have been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since March 2012.

Nonetheless, despite lots of changes that have taken place in our company and its dynamic development, Zakłady Mięsne Henryk Kania has been and will be a Polish family company tied to traditional values and to Pszczyna in Silesia, that is, to the place where it all began. This is because widely understood tradition will always be the main pillar of our business activity, and such tradition allows us to achieve a real mastery in what we do.
